51 SLH hotels recognised with Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards
After the rollercoaster of a year the world has had, the annual Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards are a most welcome celebration of all the places and people making travel memorable and magical. Over 800,000 readers submitted a record-breaking number of responses rating their travel experiences, recognising just over 50 hotels from the SLH portfolio in the 2021 results.
Special mention goes to The Sukhothai Bangkok, an urban oasis which was crowned the Best Hotel in Bangkok. All three SLH South African properties, The Cellars-Hohenort, The Marine, and The Plettenberg, were highlighted amongst the best hotels in Southern Africa, while the Farncombe Estate in the Cotswolds scored a hat-trick with The Fish Hotel, Dormy House, and Foxhill Manor all awarded in the UK’s Top 30 Hotels.
Congratulations to all of our well deserved winners, particularly after the challenges the hospitality industry has faced throughout the pandemic. We hope that brighter times are coming, and that we will have a newfound love and appreciation for travel like never before.
The Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and are commonly known as “the best of the best in travel.” The 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards are published exclusively on Condé Nast Traveller’s website here and celebrated in the November issue.

The ultimate Madrid city guide
Sometimes overlooked by other European capitals, Spain’s biggest city has so much to offer from world-class museums and galleries to talking-point architecture and a lively music scene. Sicily on a plate: a foodie guide to the Italian island
There’s something about Sicily that sticks with you. On your skin, in your camera roll, in how quickly you develop opinions about brioche. The island is full of contrasts: volcanic cliffs and citrus groves, peeling paint and polished marble, sea urchins eaten on plastic plates next to grand old cafés

12 beautiful hotel bathtubs worth escaping to the countryside for this autumn
There’s something about the turn of the seasons that calls for a long, indulgent soak. Maybe it’s the crisp air, or the way your shoulders slump (in the best way) after a long country walk or a misty mountain trek. Whether you’re in the honey-hued hills of the Cotswolds or

A deliberately slow, solo adventure through magical Bhutan
Several goblet-like lamps flicker within the colourful, ornate prayer hall at Gangtey Gonpa, a 17th century monastery on a mist-shrouded ridge overlooking Bhutan’s Phobjikha Valley. Filled with clarified yak butter, the lamps symbolise wisdom dispelling the darkness of ignorance (believed to be the root cause of human suffering in Tibetan
